The steel can is the best packaging for storing paints, as it offers strength, safety, sturdiness and is not flammable. Steel packaging brings benefits to those who manufacture, sell and end consumers.
The manufacturer who opts for the can avoids waste, as the package does not burst, efficiently preserves the content and optimizes its supply network. For the seller, it provides agility in handling and transport, as it is more resistant and facilitates stacking. And for the final consumer, it offers an ecologically correct option as it is made with recyclable 100% material, which can be infinitely reused in the manufacture of new steel without loss of the material's mechanical characteristics.
“Steel packaging has an advantage in the recycling process, because the sorting of materials in common waste can be done using only an electromagnetic separator”, explains Thaís Fagury, executive manager of Abeaço (Brazilian Association of Steel Packaging).
The paint segment currently represents around 30% of the steel packaging consumed by Brazilians: 95% of the home paint produced in Brazil, for example, is bottled in steel cans, and 100% of automotive paint is also packed in steel cans.
Recycling
Steel cans can be infinitely recycled, returning to the market to be reused in the manufacture of new steel in various segments such as automotive, white goods, civil construction and packaging. Craftsmen also reuse the material as raw material and transform the cans into beautiful options for decoration, souvenirs, toys, household items, among others.
The reverse logistics process for post-consumer packaging establishes an important sustainability and environmental preservation link with society, as it involves everything from the community that must separate post-consumer packaging to recycling cooperatives that select and correctly forward the material to revaluation centers and steelworks.
